INT. SPACESHIP STORAGE AREA - DAY

DOCTOR Rest assured, you won't get away with this. VIOLA Oh I don't think so, Jarvis, if you please. JARVIS Ready... The guards ready their guns. JARVIS (CONT'D) Aim... The Doctor, Coreen, Ben and Polly all look worried. DOCTOR No, wait. JARVIS Fire. The guards fire laser beams at the group who all collapse. VIOLA Take them away. Guards pick up and carry the group out of the ship watched by Viola with a devious smile on her face. INT. HOLDING CELL - DAY The Doctor is laid unconscious on a small metal bed attached to the wall with a large blue leather mattress on top of it. Coreen, Ben and Polly are laid unconscious on the floor. They all begin to stir, one by one they begin to wake up. They all groan, the Doctor sits on the bed while the others stand up and stretch their legs. DOCTOR Oh dear me. POLLY What happened? Polly holds her head looking pained. 2. DOCTOR We must have been merely rendered unconscious. Ben tries to open the large bolted door. COREEN I wouldn't bother if I were you, it'd take a lot more to try and budge that thing. BEN When I get out of here I'm going to give that manager a pieace of my mind. POLLY If we get out of here. BEN We've got out of bigger scrapes than this before now. The Doctor takes a handkerchief out of his pocket and begins mopping his brow. DOCTOR Dear me, this is all such a worry. Polly notices the Doctor mopping his brow and watches him concernedly. POLLY Doctor, what's wrong? Ben and Coreen look at him curiously. DOCTOR Oh don't mind me my child, just a mild change in temperature that's all, I should be ok in just a moment... that is unless I'm forced to change. BEN What do you mean change? The door opens, everyone turns to watch as Viola enters with Jarvis who both stand in front of the open door. VIOLA I trust you slept well. Coreen looks furious. 3. COREEN Yeah, well you're gonna sleep for a lot longer in a minute. Coreen lunges at Viola about to punch her when Jarvis fires a laser beam at her from the small pistol like gun he is carrying. Coreen stops, she cries out and holds her hand looking pained. The Doctor quickly stands up and examines it. He gives Viola a stern look as he approaches her. DOCTOR How dare you? Jarvis points his gun at the Doctor who gives him too a stern look. JARVIS Take one step further. DOCTOR How dare you sir? any man who lowers himself to take up arms in pursuit of the innocent is no man at all in my eyes. BEN Nor mine. POLLY And mine. VIOLA Whatever you think of me here Doctor, I can assure you, I'm not the bad guy in all of this. DOCTOR My poor pathetic young woman, if you believe that then surley you'll believe anything. VIOLA Well now we've managed to get access to the source of the problem thanks to you, we can put all this right and make sure no one else stumbles across this... minor indiscretion, ever again. 4. DOCTOR If you think you can just go charging into that ship all guns blazing you're sadly mistaken. VIOLA I think I can deal with a few oversized rats Doctor. The Doctor looks frustrated. DOCTOR But you don't see do you? These are far more than just rats you're dealing with here, these are far more aggressive and perhaps even more intelligent. If you go marching into that ship and start attacking them it could cause a massacre, you'd be overwhelmed by the sheer number of them. VIOLA My security are handpicked by me personally, I'm quite sure pest control is not beyond their ability. COREEN Yeah, and just what are you paying them? Viola looks at Coreen curiously. VIOLA I beg your pardon? COREEN Covering up for you like this, don't tell me you've not got some sort of hold over them. VIOLA They do as I say, I say jump, they ask how high. Jarvis glances at Viola. DOCTOR You're deluded. Viola turns her attention back to the Doctor. 5. VIOLA For what? Avoiding paying all those fees for ground surveys? I was merely doing my job, that's all. DOCTOR What sort of defence is that? VIOLA I was brought in to cut back costs and get this place up and running as soon as possible, how was I supposed to know? This planet has been uninhabited for centuries. BEN Yeah, well you should have checked. DOCTOR And what about the poor young woman? Killed on your watch and not even her friends and family know the truth! Viola looks defensive. VIOLA I had to act, I had to protect the reputation of the business, she was already dead, would you rather me let this get out and become public knowledge? They'd close us down and what about all those workers outthere who have families to support? Bills to pay? The Doctor looks disgusted. DOCTOR You don't care about your employees, if you did you would have shut this operation down at once. VIOLA I did my best to try and hold things togther, do you even know what it's like to be me? To do my job? There was nothing more I could have done for her. COREEN You're sick. 6. Viola looks mildly annoyed at Coreen. VIOLA Well whatever you think of me right now, I wouldn't be trading insults with me if I was you. COREEN You can't keep us here forever you know. VIOLA Oh I know, and I don't intend to. DOCTOR Whatever you might be my dear, I do know one thing. Viola looks curiously at the Doctor. VIOLA And what's that? DOCTOR You're no murderer, you didn't murder that young woman and you can't murder us either. I've seen enough death to know what a killer looks like, and you my dear are not one of them. VIOLA That's all well and good Doctor but believe me, I'd rather die than go to prison. I have too much to lose and I know what those places are like, no guards, no protection, just ships that deliver prisoners and take off again, so don't assume what I am and am not capable of. The Doctor looks horrified. VIOLA (CONT'D) Now, I think we should dispense with the pleasantries, don't you? Viola approaches Coreen. VIOLA (CONT'D) I came here for her, not you. Coreen watches Viola nervously. 7. DOCTOR That's completely out of the question. VIOLA She won't be harmed, I can assure you. Ben stands between Coreen and Viola, he looks at Viola angrily. BEN Yeah and what makes you think we'd believe that? VIOLA You can come quietly and avoid anymore distress, or you can see your friends here suffer, your choice. Polly looks disgusted at Coreen. POLLY You're despicable. Viola glances at her with the same devious smile on her face. VIOLA And for that you'll be first, Jarvis. Jarvis looks uncertain. VIOLA (CONT'D) Jarvis! Jarvis aims his gun at Polly, everyone looks worried, the Doctor and Ben quickly stand in his way. COREEN NO! I'll do as you say. Everyone turns to face Coreen. COREEN (CONT'D) Just as long as you don't hurt them. VIOLA A wise choice, Jarvis. DOCTOR You don't have to do this my dear. 8. Jarvis walks over to Coreen and handcuffs her. COREEN It's my choice. Jarvis leads Coreen out of the cell, Viola glances at the trio. BEN You harm one hair on her head and I swear I'll... VIOLA Oh I don't think you're in any sort of position to keep promises like that, do you? DOCTOR If you don't stop this now and do as I say many more could be killed because of you. VIOLA I'll be back for the rest of you later. Viola leaves, Ben is about to follow when the Doctor places his hand on his shoulder and holds him back. As the door closes the Doctor notices a guard stood outside the cell. Ben climbs onto the bed and tries to peer out of a tiny window at the top of the wall. BEN There's got to be a way out of here. DOCTOR Yes, and I think I may have an idea. Ben and Polly look at the Doctor curiously. INT. CORRIDOR TWO - DAY A guard stands beside the cell door on a long windowless stretch covered with doors on either side. 9. DOCTOR (O.S.) How dare you sir? I didn't invite you aboard, you just forced your way into my ship and thrust yourselves upon me. POLLY (O.S.) Kidnapped us more like. BEN (O.S.) Yeah, call yourself a Doctor? you couldn't diagnose a cold, never mind fly that ship of yours. DOCTOR (O.S.) I tried my best to get you back home, I should have left you in Cornwall when I had the chance! The guard looks worryingly at the cell door. POLLY (O.S.) We could have been killed because of you, you're nothing more than a menace! DOCTOR (O.S.) Anymore talk like that from you young lady and I'll give you a jolly good smacked bottom! BEN (O.S.) Yeah, you and whose army?! DOCTOR (O.S.) Unhand me sir, unhand me at once! The guard quickly types in a code on the cell door and enters the room. INT. HOLDING CELL - DAY Ben and the Doctor are stood facing the guard as they enter pointing their large gun at the pair of them. GUARD TWO Break it up, now! The Guard quickly glances around, he looks worried, he quickly turns around to see Polly rush towards him from behind the door. Ben quickly jumps him from behind and tries to restrain him. 10. Polly tries to remove the gun from his hands while Ben struggles to restrain him. Polly manages to drag the gun out of the guard's hands causing him to stumble backwards nearly knocking Ben to the floor. The guard breaks free from Ben just as Polly quickly aims the weapon at him. POLLY Take another step and I'll see how you like being on the receiving end of this thing. The Doctor and Ben leave followed by Polly who keeps the gun pointed at the guard until she is out of the cell. INT. CORRIDOR TWO - DAY Ben closes the door. GUARD TWO (O.S.) You won't get away with this! The guard starts banging on the door. The Doctor looks at Polly and points at the floor. DOCTOR There, now drop it my child. Ben looks at the Doctor questionably. BEN Hang about, what if we need to use it again? DOCTOR We don't require weapons, we shan't sink to their level, now drop it my dear. Polly reluctantly puts the gun down and quickly follows the Doctor along with Ben who run down the corridor. DOCTOR (CONT'D) You two raise the alarm and evacuate this place, I'm going to try and talk some sense into those guards. POLLY We're not leaving you. 11. The Doctor stops followed by Ben and Polly who he turns around to face. DOCTOR My dear I appreciate your concern but I can assure I shall be quite alright, now I don't care how you do it, but just make sure you clear this place. The Doctor quickly walks away watched by Ben and Polly. BEN Well how are we supposed to do that? DOCTOR Use your imagination! The Doctor disappears around a corner, Ben and Polly glance at each other and run down a different corridor. INT. PRICE SLASHER AISLE ONE THOUSAND AND SIXTY FOUR - DAY Ben and Polly run out of a large set of double doors, they glance around, Ben notices a red fire alarm on the wall beside the door and breaks the glass with his elbow. All the customers stop and look up worryingly as an alarm begins to sound. INT. SECURITY SUITE - DAY Viola is stood face to face with Jarvis, they look up as the alarm sounds along with everyone else sat at computers in the room. INT. PRICE SLASHER AISLE ONE THOUSAND AND SIXTY FOUR - DAY BEN Everyone out, now! The customers quickly abandon their shopping and begin running in opposite directions frantically. INT. SECURITY SUITE - DAY Viola looks furious. 12. VIOLA The Doctor. She turns her attention back to Jarvis. VIOLA (CONT'D) Well, what are you waiting for? Get after them! Jarvis quickly leaves the room, the other guards stand up and quickly follow him. Viola notices Ben and Polly on a security camera feed on one of the computer screens. She pulls a gun out of her inner jacket pocket and leaves the room. INT. PRICE SLASHER AISLE ONE THOUSAND AND SIXTY FOUR - DAY Customers continue running around frantically. ANNOUNCER Please remain calm and make your way to the nearest exit or teleport station. Polly runs down the aisle followed by Ben. BEN Where are we going? POLLY To find Coreen. INT. CORRIDOR THREE - DAY The Doctor runs down the corridor as the alarm sounds overhead. He suddenly stops and falls against a wall. He looks pained as he clenches his chest and sweat drips from his brow. DOCTOR No, not now, I'm not ready yet. The Doctor struggles on still clenching his chest. INT. CORRIDOR TWO - DAY Viola quickly unlocks the cell and steps inside. 13. INT. HOLDING CELL - DAY The guard is sat on the bed but stands up looking relieved at Viola stood in the doorway who watches him curiously. VIOLA What happened? GUARD TWO They were fighting, I came in to break it up but they overpowered me. VIOLA Why didn't you press the alarm? GUARD TWO I was going to but I... just thought I could handle it until one of them jumped me from behind. Viola glances at the camera on the ceiling. GUARD TWO (CONT'D) I am really sorry, I didn't think... VIOLA No, exactly, you didn't, did you? The guard watches Viola nervously, she smiles at him and moves away from the door. VIOLA (CONT'D) Well, come on then, you best get up there and find them, hadn't you? GUARD TWO Yes, right away mam. The guard runs outside, Viola's smiles turns into a frown as he passes her. INT. CORRIDOR TWO - DAY The guard runs down the corridor, Viola steps out of the cell and watches him. VIOLA Oh just one other thing. The guard stops and turns around. Viola aims her gun at him and shoots a laser beam at the guard. 14. He falls to the floor clenching his chest which steam emanates from. Viola walks over to him as a white liquid begins oozing from his badly burnt chest. Viola examines his body for a moment before walking away. INT. CONSTRUCTION SITE - DAY The service lift descends and the Doctor quickly makes his way out. At the far end of the tunnel is a large group of armed guards. DOCTOR Stop! The Guards all turn and aim their weapons at the Doctor who stops in front of them. DOCTOR (CONT'D) Listen to me, if you go charging in there and open fire you only risk making things worse! Jarvis steps forwards out of the group. JARVIS Restrain him. One of the guards takes out a pair of handcuffs and places them on the Doctor. DOCTOR Oh really, this is quite unnecessary, you don't have to do everything she orders you to. But it's no use trying to reason with you is it? You're like machines, just programmed to take orders without evening questioning them. Jarvis looks away from the Doctor uncertainly. DOCTOR (CONT'D) If you have any sense, listen to me, before it's too late. Jarvis meets the Doctor's questioning gaze. 15. JARVIS Open fire. The Doctor looks horrified, the guards begin to quickly make their way inside the ship and begin firing their lasers. The ceiling begins to tremble above their heads, Jarvis and the Doctor look up as dust and small pieces of rock begin to shower down. Inside the ship a guard begins to scream in agony. Jarvis looks worryingly at the entrance of the ship. GUARD THREE (O.S.) Fallback, fallback! One of the guards runs towards the exit of the ship but trips over. He is dragged back inside screaming as frenzied firing continues inside. DOCTOR Let me go and I can help you! Jarvis looks at the Doctor for a moment before quickly running over to him and removing his handcuffs. They both run towards the service lift as some larger rocks begin to fall from the ceiling. The Doctor gets inside and Jarvis shuts the door. The Doctor turns around and looks at Jarvis worryingly. JARVIS You go, I'll try and hold them off. DOCTOR No, wait my boy. Jarvis presses a button on the keypad beside the lift which begins to rise. The Doctor looks down at Jarvis who readies his gun and opens fire on the rats which begin to pour out of the ship. The lift continues to ascend with the Doctor trying to steady himself inside the shaking cage. INT. WAREHOUSE ONE - DAY Rats begin to pour out of the hole in the wall and spread out across the warehouse. 16. INT. CORRIDOR FOUR - DAY An armed guard runs down the corridor, Ben and Polly come out of hiding from a room with a sign on the door which reads "CHANGING ROOMS". They quickly make their way down the corridor. BEN This place is a like a maze, she could be anywhere. POLLY Well we'll just have to keep on trying then. BEN I mean you don't seriously expect that we'll just open a door and she'll just happen to be... Polly opens a door and the pair see Coreen inside the room. BEN (CONT'D) There. Ben and Polly quickly enter the room. INT. EXTRACTION CELL - DAY Coreen is sat strapped to a chair. Her eyes are prised open by a metal clamp. She is forced to stare at a quick changing array of colours on a small screen attached to the machine in front of her. Ben and Polly quickly rush over to her and examine the machine. Polly waves her hand in front of Coreen's eyes but she fails to react. Ben notices a cable leading from the machine into an attachment on the wall which he disconnects the cable from. The machine shuts down and releases Coreen's eyes from the clamps. She falls back in her chair, Ben and Polly quickly untie the straps and help her back to her feet. POLLY Are you alright? 17. Coreen groans. COREEN I think so, they were trying to extract my memories, like I was some sort of shoplifter. BEN Can you walk? COREEN Yeah, yeah, don't worry about me. Coreen pushes Ben and Polly aside. COREEN (CONT'D) It'd take a lot more than that to... Coreen falls over, Ben and Polly quickly pick her up and lead her out of the room. INT. CORRIDOR FIVE - DAY The Doctor quickly jogs down the corridor looking exhausted and enters the security suite. INT. SECURITY SUITE - DAY The Doctor quickly makes his way over to a desk and begins clicking through the CCTV footage on screen. INT. PRICE SLASHER ENTRANCE - DAY The last few shoppers quickly make their way out of the store led by two armed guards. INT. SECURITY SUITE - DAY The Doctor watches the shoppers leave on the screen in front of him. He continues flicking through the feed until he sees an image of Ben, Polly and Coreen on screen. INT. PRICE SLASHER AISLE ONE THOUSAND - DAY Ben and Polly make their way down the aisle still supporting Coreen by her sides. 18. COREEN There should be one just down here. INT. PRICE SLASHER INTERSECTION - DAY They reach an intersection with a set of round discs on the floor and a control panel beside them in the centre. Ben and Polly look around amazed. POLLY This must be the centre. BEN Well come on, sooner we get out of here the better. They walk towards the centre. VIOLA (O.S.) Stay right where you are. The trio all stop and look nervously at Viola who emerges from one of the aisles pointing her gun at them. INT. SECURITY SUITE - DAY The Doctor watches as Viola steps towards the others on the screen in front of him looking horrified. INT. PRICE SLASHER INTERSECTION - DAY Viola waves a small mobile device in her hand similar to a mobile phone but clearly more advanced. VIOLA Mobile technology, don't you just love it? Makes tracking people down on camera so much easier when you're on the go. POLLY Why don't you just let us go? Viola looks furious. VIOLA YOU TOOK EVERYTHING FROM ME! 19. COREEN You can't keep us here, there's nothing else you can do now, you might as well just let us go. VIOLA You shouldn't have interfered! BEN Yeah well maybe if you'd have done your job properly you wouldn't be in this mess. VIOLA I was handling it! POLLY One death was more than enough, you might like cutting costs but that was no price worth paying. VIOLA I was doing my job! COREEN Yeah, you just keep telling yourself that, one day you might even start to believe it. VIOLA It doesn't matter now anyway, like you said there's nothing else I can do now, apart from one thing of course. Viola aims her gun at Coreen. INT. SECURITY SUITE - DAY The Doctor quickly presses a button on the keyboard in front of him. INT. PRICE SLASHER INTERSECTION - DAY DOCTOR (O.S.) NO! Ben, Polly and Coreen shut their eyes as they hear a laser being discharged. They open their eyes a moment later to see Viola stood in front of them looking shocked. 20. She falls over revealing steam emanating from a burn on her back. The trio look shocked to see Jarvis laid on the ground behind her pointing his gun at where she was stood. He has a leg missing and an arm hanging lose from which white liquid is leaking from and a series of what appear to be severed wires are hanging lose. He slumps over dropping his gun as he does so. POLLY He's an android. COREEN Well that explains one thing at least. The ground suddenly begins to tremble, the trio all look around as items begin to fall off the shelves and crash on the floor around them. Ben looks in front of them down a long aisle and looks horrified when he sees an army of rats approaching them. Polly and Coreen notice the rats and both look horrified too. DOCTOR (O.S.) Get out of there, now, quickly! Ben and Polly quickly help Coreen over to the teleport station who pushes them aside as the rats get ever closer. COREEN Get on quick! Ben and Polly both quickly stand on a circle each. Coreen quickly types in a series of digits on the control panel. Ben and Polly both watch the rats closing in on them. POLLY Oh do hurry, please! COREEN That should do it. Coreen quickly steps on a circle beside them. COREEN (CONT'D) Should just be a short delay. 21. A sea of rats cover both Jarvis and Viola. The teleport station begins to make a strange noise. Ben and Polly close their eyes disappearing just before the rats reach them. INT. SECURITY SUITE - DAY The Doctor looks relieved at the screen and quickly begins typing. A constant alarm begins to sound and a countdown appears on screen. The Doctor quickly stands up and makes his way out of the room. EXT. PRICE SLASHER ENTRANCE - DAY Ben, Polly and Coreen stand in front of a large crowd outside the large glass doors in front of them. The trio all look around the concerned and confused group. POLLY Where he is? He should be here by now. BEN You know what he's like, always waits until the last minute before showing his face, loves to keep you in suspense. Polly turns around and is delighted to see the Doctor. POLLY Doctor! Ben and Coreen both turn around and look relieved to see him running towards them. The shutter begins to close, Ben, Polly and Coreen all look worried. BEN Here Doctor quick get a move on! COREEN He'll be sealed in. 22. They look horrified as they notice behind him the army of rats quickly running towards him. COREEN (CONT'D) Quickly, hold it! The trio all try and hold the descending shutter up but they struggle under the weight of it. POLLY Hurry Doctor! Coreen glances at the crowd behind her who are watching on. COREEN Well don't just stand there, do something! Guards and shoppers quickly rush over and all try to hold the shutter up which begins to slow down. BEN I can't hold it much longer. COREEN Come on man for god's sake, enough people have died today, now get a move on! The Doctor looking absolutely exhausted quickly slides underneath the small gap and out of the store with the rats close behind. Everyone stands back and lets go of the shutter which closes just before the rats are able to escape. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief, Ben extends his hand out to the Doctor and helps him up. Polly quickly rushes over to him and looks at him all over. POLLY Doctor, are you alright? The Doctor takes his handkerchief out of his pocket and begins mopping his brow. DOCTOR Oh I'm quite alright now my dear, oh dear me, I can't remember the last time I had such exercise. Coreen taps him on the back. 23. COREEN Be alright, it'll do you good. BEN You wanna try being in the navy and see how you feel then. DOCTOR I think I shall have to decline that offer my boy. Polly looks around at the crowd curiously. POLLY What happens now? COREEN Well someone'll have to try and explain all this to the authorities when they get here. Coreen glances at the guards in the middle of the crowd being overwhelmed by customers. COREEN (CONT'D) And someone'll have to sort them out as well. The Doctor smiles and rests his hand on Coreen's shoulder. DOCTOR And I can't think of anyone better for the job. Coreen looks surprised at the Doctor. COREEN Me? DOCTOR Well why not? COREEN Well what about you? DOCTOR Oh I'm no one at all, just a passing traveller who occasionally gets involved. Ben and Polly smile at the Doctor. 24. BEN More like does nothing else but gets involved. The Doctor frowns for a moment and glances at Ben before turning his attention back to Coreen. COREEN How can you say that, after everything you've done here today? DOCTOR Well it wasn't just me now was it, I can't take all the credit. COREEN But... but... POLLY Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be great. BEN Yeah, me too. COREEN Well I suppose someone does need to make sure those rats get safely rehomed. I mean none of this was their fault was it really? And I suppose it's only right considering it were my dad who caused all this mess. DOCTOR Exactly, but don't go blaming yourself for his mistakes, just make sure people learn from them and know exactly what happened here today. The Doctor glances at Ben and Polly. DOCTOR (CONT'D) Right, I think it's time we were off. The Doctor shakes Coreen's hand. DOCTOR (CONT'D) Goodbye my dear. The Doctor begins walking away watched curiously by Coreen. 25. COREEN But where are you going? POLLY Well with the Doctor you can never be too sure about that. DOCTOR Come along my dears. Ben and Polly both shake hands with Coreen. POLLY Goodbye. BEN Bye. POLLY It was nice meeting you. Ben and Polly begin walking away watched by Coreen. COREEN There's just one thing I need to know first. Ben and Polly stop and turn around. COREEN (CONT'D) Who are you people? Ben and Polly glance at each other. BEN Like the Doctor said, just some passing travellers. Ben and Polly both continue walking away watched by a bemused Coreen. INT. CONSOLE ROOM The Doctor is attending to the console when Ben and Polly enter. He closes the doors and the pair both stand around the console watching him. BEN Remind me never to go shopping again. 26. POLLY Unless it's Carnaby Street that is. The TARDIS begins to take off. BEN I wonder where we'll end up next. POLLY Somewhere with snow I hope, oh I would love to go skiing. DOCTOR Well be careful what you wish for my dear, you might get more than you bargained for. BEN As long as it's good old London nineteen sixty six, I don't mind. The Doctor looks down at one of his hands operating a switch on the console which begins to faintly glow. Ben and Polly look concerned. POLLY Are you alright Doctor? The Doctor looks reassuringly at them. DOCTOR Oh fine, do stop fussing over me child, after a good rest I'll be... He glances back down at his hand which has stopped glowing. DOCTOR (CONT'D) Good as new. EXT. TIME VORTEX

The TARDIS flies through the vortex and disappears.
