The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 6 Episode 1: A New Life Part 1

The shot pans around the stars and the moon, before closing in on 13 Bannerman Road, where Sarah Jane sits in the attic. While this is happening, Sarah is narrating.

Sarah Jane (Narration): Out there, there are some things that you would never believe. Quite a few of them I have seen. Sometimes it’s impossible to believe it, but out there, in that infinite run of space and time and matter, there is life. But what’s harder to believe is that even though there’s all that life, it’s still possible to feel so alone.

In a warehouse, a man is building something, but stops when he hears a crashing noise. He exits the warehouse, where he sees a spacecraft before him. He screams and runs back towards the warehouse. A young girl and a man exit from the spacecraft. The man ran towards the warehouse and grabbed the man while the girl waits outside.

Alien Man: You shall identify your name, your planet of origin and your purpose.

Bob: My name is Bob, and I work in this warehouse on Earth. It’s not bloody Halloween. Why do you think you are talking like that?

Alien Man: Our spacecraft crash landed here, and we require fuel to restart the ship so I and my niece can return home.

Bob: You’re an Alien? Even though you see those cybermen on the telly and everything, you never quite believe it-

Alien Man: Silence. You shall grant us the energy we require at once.

Bob grabbed an object and threw it towards the man, but it exploded, knocking the alien to the floor. He ran out of another door and departed the warehouse. The alien leaped up and hurried after him, grabbing him and throwing him towards the floor.

Alien Man: If you do not grant us the energy we require, you shall be assimilated.

Bob: Don’t use the big words. I’m not smart enough for those.

The Alien grabbed a weapon from their pocket and held it towards Bob. He followed Bob into the warehouse as he grabbed an item which could power the ship. The young girl entered the room from behind.

Alien Man: Shanda, we may still have hope yet.

Shanda: Good, Wentale, good.

The two aliens departed the warehouse and entered their spacecraft. Their ship still does not move. They depart the spacecraft, both holding weapons.

Alien Man: What form of common trickery is this? You shall supply us with the energy source if you value your existence.

Sarah Jane sat down on her computer in the attic. Sky enters.

Sarah Jane: Ah, Sky. Are you okay? You should be asleep.

Sky: I couldn’t get to sleep. I just kept having nightmares.

Sarah Jane: Come and sit down.

Sky sat down on a chair next to Sarah. Sarah hugged her.

Sarah Jane: I know what we do can have a huge effect on our lives, and our dreams, but what we’re doing is saving lives, and races. Luke was lucky really-He wasn’t able to dream, but you can, and that is going to affect you. If you ever don’t want to do all of this, then please just tell me, it’s okay.

Sky: No, really, it’s the best possible experience.

An article pops up on Sarah Jane’s computer.

Sarah Jane: That’s odd. There’s some kind of sinister object, some kind of spacecraft, that has been spotted by the warehouse. I think it’s worth checking out. Mr Smith, I need you.

Mr Smith opens up.

Mr Smith: Good evening, Sarah Jane. What can I help you with?

Sarah Jane: There’s been reports that a spaceship has been spotted in one of the warehouses by the docks.

Mr Smith scans for data.

Mr Smith: A non terrestrial object was spotted by Bob Parker this evening, but soon afterwards Bob disappeared.

Sarah Jane: Have the police investigated the area?

Mr Smith: The area has been cordoned off by the police but the spacecraft is still picking up on my scanners.

Sarah Jane: Are you okay to do this, Sky?

Sky: There’s no hope of me getting to sleep, so sure.

Sarah’s car rolls up outside of the now abandoned warehouse. The spacecraft stands outside. Sarah and Sky exit the car as Sarah grabs her sonic lipstick which she uses to scan the spacecraft.

Sarah Jane: My sonic is detecting engine failures. It looks like whatever came in this spacecraft is stuck here. If anything came here, of course-

There is the sound of clattering from the warehouse. Sarah and Sky move towards it. Inside, Shanda and Wentale are sat on the floor. Sarah moves towards them.

Sarah Jane: Hello. My name is Sarah Jane Smith and this is my daughter, Sky.

Wentale: You are a hostile lifeform?

Sarah Jane: No we mean no harm.

Wentale: We encountered a humanoid male who was hostile. We asked for fuel, but he refused to grant it to us.

Sky: Are you stuck here?

Shanda: Our spacecraft crashed here a few hours ago. We had set a course from the planet we had visited to our home world, Zanos, but our engine supply ran out along the way.

Wentale: We need some way of getting home.

Sky: We’ll help! We’ve got lots of things that can help you, I’m sure.

Sarah Jane: Yes, of course, just try your best not to be spotted. Although it’s late at night here, and you’re enough like a human to not be spotted.

Wentale and Shanda follow Sarah and Sky towards the car. Sarah and Sky get in the front, but Shanda and Wentale do not get in. Wentale attempts to unlock the door.

Wentale: How does this door open?

Sky: Maybe this wasn’t the best idea-

Sarah Jane: Sky, could you get out and help them get in, please?

Sky opens the door for Wentale and Shanda. They lean down and get into the car. Wentale bangs his head on the roof of the car. Sarah tuts.

Sarah Jane: This could be a long night.

The car rolls up in the driveway of Bannerman Road. Haresh is putting his bins out. Sarah signals Wentale and Shanda to stay down.

Sarah Jane: Hello, Haresh, how are you?

Haresh: I’m fine yes thanks. Just putting the bins out.

Sarah Jane: It’s a bit late to be putting the bins out, isn’t it?

Haresh: Well, it’s my wedding anniversary so it’s been a long day.

Sky gets out of the car. Wentale and Shanda also get out of the car. Gita departs the house.

Gita: Ah, Sarah, you’re out late. Have you got some new friends?

Sarah Jane: Oh yeah, they’re just staying with me and Sky for the night.

Gita: Can I meet them? I love meeting new people.

Shanda and Wentale turn around. Gita screams. Haresh looks shocked.

Wentale: These beings seem hostile too. They carry smelly produce in their hands. They shall both be assimilated.

Gita: Oh my god! See, Haresh, I was right. There are aliens.

Haresh: You’ve got aliens staying around your house?

Sky: No, it’s just a fancy dress party, don’t worry. We’ll just go inside, won’t we?

Sarah Jane: Good night, Gita and Haresh.

Sarah Jane smiles as she follows Sky and the Aliens into the house. Haresh and Gita turn to each other with stunned expressions on their faces.

Haresh: I knew there was something funny about that Sarah Jane.

Gita: I knew that about three years ago.

Sarah, Sky and the Aliens enter the attic.

Sarah Jane: Mr Smith, I need your help. These are the aliens that the spacecraft belongs to. We need you to find a way to get them back home.

Mr Smith: A great amount of power would be required to get them back to their planet of origin. Zanos is 6 trillion light years away.

Sarah Jane: I need you to find some way of powering their spacecraft. Are you able to transport the spacecraft from the warehouse into the attic?

Mr Smith: Of course, Sarah Jane.

The spacecraft is transported into the centre of the room.

Mr Smith: I shall try my best to find a way to get them back home but it would take a while. Can you leave me on for the night?

Sarah Jane: Of course. Anyway, Sky, it looks like we all need to get some sleep, whether it’s filled with nightmares or not.

Sarah and Sky walk out of the room and enter the bedrooms. A little while later, Sky wakes up from another nightmare. She moves towards the attic. She hears Shanda and Wentale talking inside.

Wentale: This computer could be of worth to us.

Shanda: We should take it with us on our trip back to Zanos.

Mr Smith: I can hear what you are saying and I shall report it back to Mrs Smith.

Wentale: The Humanoid females are asleep. While they are sleeping, we shall take your technology and we shall take your possessions.

Wentale extracts the disc drive from Mr Smith and places it in his pocket. Mr Smith switches off. Sky stands outside in shock. Wentale opens the door, but Sky has hidden behind a nearby pillar. Wentale walks back into the attic.

Wentale: We shall use Mr Smith to complete our plot back on Zanos. Ready up the spacecraft, Shanda.

Sky opens the door and intrudes on their conversation.

Sky: Stop right now! I’m not letting you get away with this!

Wentale: Ah, the puny young humanoid female attempts to stand up to us. We can overpower you, girl.

Sky: I know about all of this, so I will tell Sarah Jane, and she will have the ability to stop you. She has combated races like you many times before, as well as her friends. I know about everything. I know your spacecraft is really working, I know you’re planning on taking Mr Smith, I know you’ve got some kind of plan back on your home world.

Wentale: We are not planning on leaving just yet. We wish to stay here for a while. Sarah Jane has put a stop to many races plots in the past, but she shall not put a stop to ours.

Shanda grabs Sky and throws her to the ground. Wentale grins at her.

Sky: What are you going to do with me?

Shanda: You’ll see. All in good time.

Gita knocks on Rani’s door. She is still asleep.

Gita: Wakey wakey rise and shine.

Rani: Mum, it’s 7 O’Clock in the morning. On a Sunday.

Gita: I know, but with all of the excitement of my wedding anniversary with your Father I couldn’t get to sleep, so I’m waking you up too.

Haresh: She’s woken all of us up. You should be lucky you’ve had any sleep.

Rani: How was the wedding anniversary that you’re so excited about?

Haresh: That’s not what she’s excited about.

Gita: Oh yes, you’ll never guess what happened last night. Sarah and that adopted daughter of hers went into the house, and they had aliens with them. Actual aliens were staying around 13 Bannerman Road last night.

Rani (Pretends to be shocked): Oh my god! Aliens? I can’t believe it. There’s no such thing.

Gita: I used to think not. But then we saw those rhino things, and now we’ve seen this. It’s all rather peculiar.

Haresh: Your mother thinks it explains all the weird things that have been happening here.

Gita: Lots of things out of the ordinary have been going on. Remember that time when everyone hated Clyde for some reason? Remember that time when that weird woman turned up at Bloomin’ Lovely? I think it’s all as a result of the actions of aliens. It’s all them. My conspiracy theories have come true.

Rani: I’ll go round Sarah Jane’s. See if she’s got any aliens lurking around-Which she won’t because Aliens don’t exist.

Gita: I’ll come with you. I want to see what else she’s hiding. She might have some handsome young man held up in there.

Rani: No, Mum, don’t worry. I’ll go round there myself.

Gita: Okay, but just be aware. One of those aliens tried to kill me last night. They might try to kill you as well.

Rani walks over to the house and knocks on the door. Sarah answers.

Rani: I thought I would check what was going on. Mum says she saw some aliens come into your house. I think she knows about-

Sarah Jane: Call Clyde at once. We need all the help we can get.

Rani: What do you mean? What’s happened?

Sarah Jane: Sky’s gone missing, and Mr Smith isn’t functional. I think it’s as a result of the Aliens upstairs, but I think they could be dangerous. They’re pretending they don’t know anything but I’m sure they do.

Rani calls Clyde. Answer phone-

Clyde: Hey, I’m at the skatepark, or the amusements, or something like that. Give me a ring again later, or if it’s really important then leave a message after the bleepy noise-

Rani: Hey Clyde it’s Rani. Sarah Jane needs you. Now. Phonecall ends. Why do you need Clyde anyway?

Sarah Jane: It’s not just that I need all the help I can get. With Skye and Mr Smith gone, the Aliens could know who you two are too. I need to try and protect everyone around me. Please go home though. Don’t let the Aliens spot you.

Rani: But I want to help you-

Sarah Jane: Those Aliens could want you and your parents dead. I need you to protect your family, and if you see Clyde, protect him too.

Rani: Sure. I hope you find Skye and Mr Smith.

Rani leaves the house. Shanda looks out of the Attic Window and spots Rani entering her house.

Shanda: It looks like we’ve found another one of Mrs Smith's friends. They live across the road. What should we do?

Wentale: We shall pay them a visit.

Rani enters her parents house.

Rani: Mum? Dad?

Gita: Ah Rani you were quick! Did you see the Aliens?

Rani: No, mum, I think you’re just seeing things.

Haresh: I told you, Gita. It’s probably just some idiots in fancy dress.

Gita: Don’t be so naive, Haresh. You’ve seen aliens. Both of us have. We have enough evidence now to prove that they are real!

Rani: Aliens don’t exist, Mum. You’re just being paranoid.

Gita: Alright, but if Aliens do come out of 13 Bannerman Road, then I will be quick to prove you wrong.

There is a knock at the door

Gita: Maybe that’s them now.

Gita answers the door. It is Clyde. He rushes in.

Clyde: Hey, Mrs Chandra. Is Rani in?

Gita: Yes she’s just through there.

Clyde: Rani, can I have a word. In private.

Inside of Rani’s bedroom.

Clyde: I received a call from you and Sarah Jane. You said it was urgent.

Rani: Yes it is. Sky’s gone missing and the disc that powers Mr Smith has gone too. She believes that the Aliens that she’s helping are responsible.

Clyde: Aliens? Sarah Jane is helping aliens?

Rani: Yes and they’re after us…

Clyde: You mean that you guys went off on an adventure without me?

Rani: There’s much more important matters than that right now-

Clyde: What are we supposed to do? I mean there’s aliens across the road who could be about to kill us.

Rani: Sarah Jane told me to protect myself, you and my family. I think she’s just pretending she doesn’t know anything in front of them. If she makes a wrong move, then Sky’s life could be at stake. You know how much she cares about her.

Clyde: Yes I do. But what are we meant to protect ourselves with?

Rani: We’ve protected ourselves before-I’m sure we could do it again.

Clyde: I’ve got a nerf gun at home. We could use that.

Rani nods as Clyde exits the room.

Rani: Wait, Clyde-I think mum knows about what’s going on. I think she knows about the Aliens.

Clyde: But the Men in Black wiped her mind.

Rani: It doesn’t mean she can’t remember some elements of it. And she spotted those two aliens going into Sarah Jane’s house last night-

Clyde: Most importantly, did you go on an adventure without me-

Rani: Sarah Jane and Sky must have gone off on an adventure without us. We weren’t invited.

Clyde: Right, I’ll be having words with her. I thought we were part of the Gang.

Rani: And I’ll talk to her too. Doesn’t she realise by now that letting aliens into the house is not a good idea-

Clyde: She’s way too trustworthy sometimes.

Rani: Maybe that’s a good thing. I mean she’s capable, isn’t she? She knows how to defeat these people. It’s worth the trust.

Clyde: But she’s put all of us in danger. Part of me doesn’t want the danger.

Rani: I thought you liked the danger. I love it personally.

Clyde: I usually love it, but when my lives on the line it’s another matter.

Rani: Anyway, we don’t have time to waste. Get the nerf gun-

Sarah Jane walks up the stairs holding tea.

Sarah Jane: I don’t know whether your race likes tea, or whether you can drink tea but I’ve made you some. I’ll also order some pizzas for tonight. Do either of you have any idea-

She opens the door and the Aliens have gone. The window is smashed.

Sarah Jane: Oh no. Where’s K-9 when you need him?

There is a knock on the Chandra’s door. Gita answers it. Wentale and Shanda are at the door. Gita looks scared.

Wentale: I believe we met last night. I’m Wentale and this is my niece, Shanda. We’re looking for a place to live around here and we’d like to look around.

Gita: Oh okay. Sorry, we’re a bit busy.

Wentale: I am not giving you an option.

Wentale forces the door down. Gita screams. Rani and Clyde hurry down the stairway. They spot the aliens and hurry away. Haresh enters with a hose pipe and squirts it at the aliens, but they run away.

Haresh: I heard you scream-

Gita: A hose pipe? Honestly, Haresh, what’s that going to do?

Rani and Clyde hurry down the road to escape from the Aliens. Clyde’s friend, Steve Wallace, stops them in the street, occupied by some of his friends.

Steve: Are you up for a game?

Clyde: Bit busy, Steve, can’t stop. Maybe another time.

Steve: Suit yourself.

Clyde and Rani hurry away. Wentale and Shanda stop when they spot Steve.

Steve: Oh my god-It’s another Alien-

Wentale: Cease your dialogue, humanoid male. Which way did they go?

Steve: He went past the river.

Wentale and Shanda run after Clyde and Rani.

Steve’s Friend: What the hell did you do that for? Clyde is gonna totally be killed by those aliens.

Steve: He isn’t that close a friend anyway, blood.

Rani and Clyde hide behind a dustbin near the skate park. Wentale and Shanda look around for a while. They move the dustbin anyway.

Wentale: Do not think you can run from us again, Earthlings.

Rani: Run for it, Clyde!

Wentale holds up a weapon. Clyde and Rani stop and hold their hands above their heads.

Clyde: You know you’re making quite a public display. If you kill us here, then everybody will see you, and they’ll arrest you.

Wentale: Your human prisons cannot contain us.

Shanda: The one that your friend kept us in did not.

Wentale: We require more information on Sarah Jane Smith.

Rani: Well, we don’t really want to give it to you.

Wentale moves towards them with the weapon. He holds Clyde at gunpoint.

Clyde: Please tell the aliens what they want to hear. I’m too young and handsome to die.

Rani: Move the gun away from him please.

Wentale: Tell us everything we need to know about Sarah Jane Smith at once.

Rani: Why do you need to know? What does it mean to you?

Wentale: The legends of Sarah Jane Smith are echoed through the universe. Her time with the Doctor changed the lives of many races. The Kaleds, the Exxillions, the Ice Warriors, the Osirians-Thwarted and threatened as a result of the actions of Sarah Jane Smith. This has only worsened since her return to Earth. We wish to be the ones to destroy Sarah Jane Smith and her friends, so Earth can be the home to many other beings who wish to invade, such as ourselves.

Rani: And someone will take her place. It is inevitable.

Shanda: We shall destroy them too if we have to. And every other person who tries to stand in the way of intergalactic threats.

Clyde: The people of this planet aren’t going to stand you invading it, you know.

Wentale: We know, but they shall not be granted another chance.

Rani: So that’s what it is, is it? Just another typical alien Invasion, just as always.

Wentale: Incorrect. Our Invasion isn’t just to invade the planet for ourselves, but to invade the planet for any other beings who wish to seek home here.

Sarah Jane appears holding her sonic lipstick in front of her.

Sarah Jane: And now I know everything, thankyou. Place your weapons down, else I’ll do something with this.

Wentale: What will you do with that puny device?

Sarah Jane: This-

Sarah Jane causes a small explosion, distracting Wentale and Shanda.

Sarah Jane: Run, you two!

Sarah, Rani and Clyde run away. Wentale and Shanda hurry after them. Wentale grabs Rani and holds her at gunpoint.

Sarah Jane: Put her down!

Wentale: No, we shall take her. You’ve got other places to be.

Sarah Jane: What do you mean?

Wentale: In exactly four minutes time, the whole of Bannerman Road shall be destroyed. We have detonated a device, originating in your attic.

Sarah Jane: You’re bluffing.

Wentale: We are not bluffing. You can risk it if you like.

Sarah Jane: Let my friend go, please.

Wentale: You can have your friend back when our job here is done. It’s up to you to save Bannerman road now.

Sarah Jane: I’m sorry, Rani. I’ll rescue you, I promise.

Rani smiles as she and the aliens disappear. Sarah and Clyde hurry from the direction they came and back to 13 Bannerman Road. They hurry into the attic. An explosive device is on the floor, reading 1 minute, 13 seconds.

Sarah Jane: So they weren’t bluffing-

Clyde: Unless they are. It could be a fake.

Sarah Jane: I can’t risk it. I think it’s genuine.

Clyde: What are we going to do?

Sarah Jane: I don’t know, but in exactly 42 seconds, the whole of Bannerman Road will explode.

Tomorrow: Sarah Jane and Clyde must try to stop Bannerman Road from imploding. But will they be too late? Is this the end for them, for Rani and for Sky? And where have the Aliens taken their friends?
