The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 6 Episode 2: A New Life Part 2

Previously: Sarah Jane and Sky arrived at the scene of a wrecked spacecraft and uncovered two Aliens, Wentale and Shanda, who required energy to get them back home to Zanos. Sarah offered to supply them with this energy source, and let them live in the attic of her house while she sorted something out. On the way home, Gita spotted one of the aliens, sharpening her conspiracies of alien encounters. The next morning, Sky and Mr Smith have vanished, and Wentale and Shanda are responsible. When the Aliens spot Rani, they go after her and Clyde, and take Rani captive. Sarah Jane learns that the Aliens have detonated a bomb inside of the attic which will blow Bannerman Road to pieces in exactly 42 seconds.

Clyde: Do something, please.

Sarah Jane: I’m just trying to think.

Sarah places the bomb inside of Mr Smith’s DVD casing.

Clyde: Whoa-What are you doing?

Sarah Jane: If I place the bomb inside of Mr Smith, it might just work. After all, he’s gone, and he’ll probably never come back. It will contain the explosion.

There is the sound of an explosion.

Sarah Jane: There we go. And Bannerman Road is safe.

Clyde: Bannerman Road is never safe. Haven’t you learnt that by now?

Sarah Jane: Oi, I’m doing the best I can to save it. We all are.

Clyde: What are we going to do now? How are we going to find those creatures?

Sarah Jane: They want me dead, don’t they? They want me gone so they can make Earth their new home. Well, I’m not going anywhere. And they want me, so they’ll come back here within time. We’ll just have to wait.

Clyde: And what about Sky and Rani?

Sarah Jane: Oh, I’m sure they’re still going strong.

Wentale enters the warehouse. Shanda is guarding Rani and Sky, who are on the floor.

Sky: Can we have some water, please?

Wentale: We do not need to supply you with anything, Earthling.

Rani: What’s the point of keeping us here anyway? Are you going to kill us?

Wentale: Sarah Jane cares about you too much to let you die. She’ll know we’re here, and when she comes to rescue you, we shall destroy her on sight. And then after that, we shall destroy you too.

Shanda: The 4 minutes has passed. The bomb has not detonated.

Wentale: I can see that, Shanda. Sarah must have found a way to stop the bomb. Well, Earthlings, you best hope that Sarah Jane turns up soon, otherwise you’re in for a highly painful experience.

Sarah Jane and Clyde are still in the attic.

Clyde: Are we just going to wait here for them to turn up?

Sarah Jane: I suppose we best do something. Where do you think they would go?

Clyde: Where did you find them?

Sarah Jane: Of course-The Warehouse! Come on, Clyde, we’re going for a drive.

The warehouse is silent. Wentale and Shanda whisper to each other. Rani and Sky cannot make out what they are saying.

Rani: Are you okay, Sky?

Sky: Yeah, I’m just thirsty, that’s all.

Rani: We’ll find a way out of here. What are they saying over there?

Sky: I don’t know. I can’t make out what they are saying.

Rani: Look, they’re too busy talking to each other. Are you a fast runner?

Sky: I don’t know. I haven’t been alive for that long so I haven’t had too much time to test out my running skills.

Rani: Just run towards those doors as quickly as you can in 3, 2, 1…

Rani and Sky begin running. They burst out of the warehouse. Wentale and Shanda hurry after them. Sarah Jane’s car rolls up outside of the warehouse. Sarah and Clyde exit, with Sarah holding her sonic lipstick in front of her. Wentale holds up his weapon.

Sarah Jane: If you’re going to kill me, why don’t you just get on with it?

Clyde: I hate waiting, don’t you?

Wentale: Silence!

Sarah Jane: Tell me, Wentale, have you ever taken a life?

Wentale: No.

Sarah Jane: How do you think it would feel? Having to kill someone so you can do what you set out to do?

Wentale: I suppose I shall find out.

Sarah Jane: No, Wentale, you won’t. I think you haven’t killed me yet because you don’t have the nerve. I think you’re too kind.

Wentale: Too kind? Our race is ruthless!

Sarah Jane: If you were ruthless, you would have killed me already, wouldn’t you? Now please, stop this. I can find you a way home. I can find you a place here if you want that.

Wentale: Please don’t send us back to Zanos.

Sky: Why? What is wrong with Zanos?

Wentale: I was a criminal back on my home world. They wanted to execute me. I fled away to Venus, but they kept following me. I took the ship down to Earth, somewhere they would never find me. I wanted to stay here. I wanted to invade so I could escape from them.

Sarah Jane: You cannot put a whole planet of lives at stake just to save your own.

Wentale: It’s not my life I want to save, it’s my daughters.

Sarah Jane: I can keep you safe, Wentale. I can keep you in my attic for a while until I find you something better. You can live here. You can stay safe from them. Nobody needs to die in return. Nothing needs to be invaded.

Wentale: I thought the only way to get what I want would be to invade this world. I thought the only way to do that was to kill you.

Sarah Jane: I’m here to help. Now please, drop your weapons.

Wentale drops his weapon. Shanda shoots him in the back.

Shanda: I am sorry, Wentale. It was what had to be done.

Sarah Jane: What are you doing, Shanda?

Shanda: We came here with a purpose: To have you killed. I plan to serve that purpose.

Sarah Jane: Please, Shanda, I beg of you.

Shanda: Now Mrs Smith, you shall die. For the glory of the Zanosian empire.

Sarah Jane: Into the car, everyone!

Sarah jumps into the car and starts it. They drive off. Shanda hurries after them. The car pulls in at Bannerman Road. Haresh and Gita are across the world.

Sarah Jane: Oh no, we don’t have time for them.

Rani: Excuse me, they’re my mum and dad.

Sarah Jane: I know, but we don’t have time for them.

Gita: Sarah!

Sarah Jane: Oh Gita, how are you?

Gita: I wanted a word with you, actually.

Haresh: Sorry, Sarah Jane. Come on, Gita.

Gita: Where did the Jane come from? I like it! Anyway, I want a word with you. Those two aliens were in my house yesterday.

Haresh: Our house-

Gita: Stop interrupting, Haresh, it’s rude-

Clyde: Yeah, they’re friends of mine. We were playing hide and seek.

Gita: Honestly, you two have the weirdest of friends.

Sarah Jane: Anyway, we best be going.

Rani: Yeah, see you later, mum.

Gita: Are you alien hunting again?

Sarah Jane: No. These two wanted some revision for some exams, so I thought I’d teach them a few things if that’s alright with you, Gita.

Gita: As long as there’s no aliens involved then I’m fine with that!

Rani: I told you, Mum, Aliens don’t exist.

They walk into the house. Shanda hurries down the path, holding a gun at Haresh.

Shanda: Do not move!

Haresh: We mean no harm!

Shanda: Do not move! Are you someone Sarah Jane admires?

Haresh: I’m not sure-

Shanda: A yes or no answer would be satisfactory.

The window of the attic opens. Sarah and Rani peep their head through.

Rani: Mum, Dad, I’ll be right down.

Shanda: If you do not come down here and surrender yourself, Mrs Smith, then your friends shall be killed.

Rani: You have to do something.

Sarah Jane: Don’t worry, I will do.

Sarah rushes out of the attic, down the stairs and outside of the house. She holds the sonic lipstick towards Shanda.

Sarah: What is that on your hand?

Shanda: A teleporter.

Sarah points the sonic screwdriver at the teleporter, transporting Shanda away.

Rani: Won’t she just come back?

Sarah: Oh, I’m sure she won’t. That teleport was directed at her home planet. If what they were saying was true, she won’t make it out of there alive.

Rani: Mum, Dad, are you okay?

Gita: I was right, Rani. Aliens do exist.

Sarah Jane: It’s okay, Rani, they know now. You don’t have to keep things from them anymore.

Gita: What have you been keeping from us?

Rani: I think we need a good, long talk about all of this.

Haresh: You were right all along, Gita.

Rani: Come inside, you two, please.

Inside of the Chandras house.

Rani: So me, Sarah Jane, Clyde, Sky, and Luke when he was here, go on adventures to save Bannerman Road from all the threats it faces.

Haresh: That explains all the weird stuff that has been happening since we arrived. Mr Trueman, the rhino things, that Lizard creature and that time at Sarah Jane’s wedding when we all vanished.

Rani: Yes. All of that is as a result of our actions.

Haresh: Sarah Jane is putting not only your lives in danger, but everyone around you. You can’t keep doing this.

Gita: Come on, it’s exciting for her. I mean, Aliens! I’d love to join the gang.

Rani: You’re not joining the gang-

Haresh: Listen to me, Rani. You’re not going to be seeing Sarah Jane again, okay. I’m putting my foot down here. She’s putting your life in danger, and our lives in danger. I don’t want to lose you, Rani. I’m telling you to stop this. This is the end of your adventures with Sarah Jane.

Inside of Bannerman Road

Clyde: Is that us done for the day now?

Sarah Jane: Not really. There’s still the matter of Mr Smith.

Clyde: You kind of blew him up, didn’t you?

Sarah Jane: Yes I did but we can still find a way to get him back I’m sure.

Sky: These adventures-Can we do them without Mr Smith?

Sarah Jane: Of course we can, he’s just a lot of help, and it would be very hard to succeed in some of these missions without him.

Sky: What are you going to do?

Sarah Jane: We’re going back to the warehouse.

Clyde: Not again…

The Car rolls up outside of the warehouse. Wentales body is on the floor. The three of them run into the warehouse, but Wentale grabs Sky’s foot and pulls her to the ground. Wentale leaps up from the floor.

Sarah Jane: Ah, Wentale! I thought we’d seen the last of you.

Wentale: No, Mrs Smith. My niece made a huge mistake, and she will never hear the last of it. We should be sticking together, not trying to kill each other.

Sarah Jane: With all due respect, Wentale, you did try to kill us.

Wentale: I learnt from that mistake, did I not? And then I got punished for it. Where is Shanda? I saw her run after you.

Sarah Jane: I transported her back to her home planet.

Wentale: But they’ll kill her on sight!

Sarah Jane: I had to do whatever was necessary to protect Bannerman Road.

Wentale: You shall take me to her. You shall take me to her.

Sarah Jane: The transporter on your wrist can take you back to Zanos. You can use it to save her.

Wentale: But what about the Zanosians?

Sarah Jane: I’ve got a vortex manipulator at home. I’ve been up in the stars before, and I can find a way to protect you. If that’s what you want, of course.

Wentale: No, they will kill you on sight too. I do not want you risking your lives.

Clyde: Who said we will go to space? I don’t want to. I can’t.

Wentale: You do not need to come. None of you shall come. The easiest possibility is for you to bring Shanda back down here.

Sarah Jane: Oh no. How do I know this isn’t another plan to kill us?

Wentale: Like you said, if I were going to kill you, I would have done it already.

Sarah Jane: Your spacecraft is still in my attic. Come along, Clyde and Sky, we’re going to space.

A spacecraft lands outside of the warehouse. Armed alien soldiers coated heavily in armour enter. They lower their helmut, revealing green humanoid faces. They grab Wentale. Shanda exits from the ship.

Shanda: Leave him alive!

Clyde: Wait-Can someone explain to me what is going on?

Wentale: They are the Zanosians. They’re here to punish us.

Shanda: Of course. We shall take you back to Zanos.

Sky: I thought you were against the Zanosians?

Shanda: I have been working with them all this time, and I want this plan to go ahead. This Invasion was never intended for the two of us, it was intended for the Zanosians. You shall be taken too, Mrs Smith.

Sarah Jane: Oh, I’m not coming with you.

Shanda: I’m not giving you any choice. Either you and your friends come with me or I destroy you right now.

Sarah Jane: You seem to be acting older than your age. How old are you?

Shanda: Age is but a number.

Sarah Jane: How old are you?

Shanda: 12.

Sarah Jane: 12? You are 12 years old, and you have been used as a puppet by the Zanosians. They have not spoken yet. They are making you do all the work for them. I don’t think the Zanosians are quite as glorious as we were told.

Shanda: The Zanosians are the greatest and most powerful race of beings ever known.

Sarah Jane: Of course you would say that. All races are proud of themselves. We are too, though when you go out there you know there is nothing to be proud of.

Shanda: I have come to take you with me. You shall come.

Wentale: We shall go.

Clyde: Err-We shall not go-

Sky: Actually, maybe it would be best to go. We do not want to die.

Shanda: You shall die, eventually, as all beings do. You shall live out what remains of your life-A very short period of time-On Zanos. You shall come now.

Sarah Jane points the sonic towards Shanda’s ear. A circuit falls out.

Sarah Jane: As I thought! You are being controlled, Shanda.

Shanda: What do you mean I am being controlled? That is ridiculous!

Sarah Jane: It’s not ridiculous because it is true. They have been controlling you all this time but now you are free, Shanda.

Shanda: I am free? I am free! I am no longer under their control! I am free!

Sarah Jane: You were never aware of it, but you were their minion to commit evil acts for them. Make a stand now, Shanda! Save the ones who truly care for you.

Shanda: Zanosians, you shall go. I know how scared you are.

Zanosian: You cannot dictate us. We came here for Wentale, and we shall get him.

Wentale: I shall make a deal. You can take me, as long as you spare the lives of my daughter and our new human friends.

Zanosian: That deal is accepted. But we shall return to Bannerman Road to get Sarah Jane Smith and her friends, and then the Invasion shall commence.

Clyde: See you then, losers. Have a nice trip.

The Zanosians teleport away.

Shanda: I’ve made my stand but because of that I’ve lost everything. What do I do now?

Sarah Jane: Well, we have a place. Our group may be getting crowded, but you can join me, Clyde, Rani and Sky. And Mr Smith if I find him.

Sky: He’s on the floor-Over there!

Sarah Jane: Ah good, we shall sort this out. We shall get Mr Smith back to where he belongs.

Rani crosses the road as Sarah’s car pulls in the Drive.

Sarah Jane: Ah, Rani, may I introduce you to the new member of the group, Shanda?

Rani: Wait, I thought she was trying to kill you. To kill us.

Shanda: The Zanosians had been controlling me but I made a stand and now I am free, thanks to Sarah Jane Smith. She is a hero, and I made a huge mistake trying to get rid of her. I hope you can accept my apology.

Rani; Are you sure she can be trusted?

Shanda: I’m right here you know!

Rani: Sorry, it’s just we’ve got a lot of secrets, and if they got out then our lives could be in danger. In more danger than they are today. My Mum and Dad already know about it, and it’s not like they’re going to keep quiet about it.

Sarah Jane: How are they taking it?

Rani: Can we talk about that? In private, please?

Sarah Jane: Of course. Come on everyone. I was thinking about ordering pizza for tea. I know what you’d all want!

Clyde: I was gonna go down and play football with Steve and the Gang, you know…

Rani: Stop trying to sound cool.

Clyde: I always sound cool! I’m Clyde Langer!

Clyde walks off. The others walk inside. Sarah and Rani enter the attic.

Sarah Jane: What’s wrong, Rani?

Rani: I’ve got something to say. It’s Mum and Dad, they’re stopping me from seeing you. They’re talking about putting the house on the market.

Sarah Jane: I was worried this day would come. Your mother and Father are very protective of you, and I know how they feel after having Luke and Sky. If they don’t feel comfortable with you doing this, then I’m afraid you can’t continue.

Rani: What? But I can’t just not continue this? Not after everything I know. Everything we’ve been through. This can’t just be it.

Sarah Jane: I was in a similar position with Maria before she left. I’m afraid that it’s your mum and dad’s decision. I don’t want to lose you but they’re the Judges of this.

Rani: I don’t want to stop this. I really don’t.

Sarah Jane: Have you told anyone else about this?

Rani: No. And I want to keep it a secret for as long as possible.

Sarah Jane: I’ll tell you what, I’ll throw you a party. I won’t tell anyone what it’s really for, I’ll tell them it’s for Shanda, and you can tell them there.

Rani: Okay, just promise you won’t tell anyone.

Sarah Jane: I promise.

Shanda enters.

Shanda: What were you talking about?

Sarah Jane: Oh, just some personal matters. Nothing too important.

Shanda: Just because I’m the latest addition to this group, don’t feel like you need to keep everything from me.

Rani: I guess it’s no harm you knowing, but I’m leaving soon.

Shanda: So I’ll be your replacement?

Rani: I guess so yes. Well not really. Kind of. But please don’t tell Clyde and Sky because they don’t know yet.

Sarah Jane: I was thinking about throwing you a party, Shanda! We could have cakes, and drinks, and party games, and everything. If you have parties on Zanos. If you want a party! You don’t have to have one. Sorry, I’m talking too quickly.

Shanda: I would love a party if that is okay with you.

Sarah Jane: Then a party it is! Next Tuesday! Let’s do next Tuesday!

Sky: What’s going on?

Sarah Jane: We’re throwing a party for Shanda next Tuesday. If the three of you would like to get to know each other while I go out and talk to Gita and Haresh, then please do.

Rani: Please be careful. My parents have an edge.

Sarah Jane: So do I, believe me.

Sarah knocks on the Chandras door. Gita answers

Gita: Sarah? Come on in!

Haresh: I’ve been meaning to have a word with you.

Gita: We have Haresh, not just me.

Sarah Jane: Rani told me about what you told her. She told me that you didn’t want her to continue her adventures with me.

Haresh: If you’ve come here to have a go at us-

Sarah Jane: No I haven’t. I have two children of my own. Of course I understand.

Gita: If it helps at all, it was all Haresh’s decision.

Sarah Jane: Look, I’m throwing a party next Tuesday and I wondered whether you wanted to come along. Everyone would be there.

Haresh: Of course we’ll come. Thank you for asking.

Sarah Jane: Also, if you could keep all of this private, that would be wonderful.

Sarah Jane leaves

Gita: What a nice woman she is! And we get to see where Rani hangs out.

Haresh: We need to tell the World about this.

Gita: Yes you’re right, Haresh. The world needs to know that Aliens exist.

Sarah crosses the Road and spots someone at her door.

Visitor: You are Sarah Jane Smith are you not? And this is Bannerman Road? I came here because I saw the picture that was posted.

Sarah Jane: What picture?

Visitor: There was a picture shared online. You’re the Alien hunters right?

Sarah Jane: I don’t know what you are talking about. Please leave. Thank you for coming but I’ve had a very long day.

Sarah walks into the attic.

Sarah Jane: Right, I’m going to order some pizzas! What would you all like?

Sky: Meat feast.

Rani: Just plain cheese, please.

Shanda: What is pizza?

Sarah Jane: Oh, Shanda, over the next few months you’ll learn. You’ll learn everything.

Next Week: Sarah Jane throws a party for Rani while pretending it is for Shanda. There, Rani prepares to make an important announcement to Clyde and Sky but is interrupted by the arrival of Clyde's mother Carla and the threat of an alien invasion. But the world is starting to discover exactly what Sarah Jane Smith and the gang get up to in Bannerman Road, and an old friend of the Doctor's is about to make her return.
